The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry has added its voice to concerns that VAT refunds will be postponed because of the ongoing investigation into suspected VAT fraud.

The news was revealed by The Sunday Times, and concern about the impact of stopping refunds was expressed by the GRTU in The Times today (click here to read).

The Chamber said it supported the authorities in carrying out all investigations necessary to unearth all wrongdoings and the people behind them.

"But postponing VAT refunds will serve to innocently victimise law abiding business people."

It appealed to the authorities to complete the necessary investigations as soon as possible to ensure business as usual at the VAT Department within a reasonable period.

"Genuine members of the business community, who are already facing cash flow problems should not be punished for other people’s offences."
