Tristan Scott Hanes, 40, was arraigned before a Maltese court in March 2003 and accused of causing serious injury, among other charges.

He had subsequently escaped from Malta and a European Arrest Warrant was issued against him. He was re-arrested in Britain last Friday and brought back to Malta, the police said.

The magistrates' court ordered that he be kept at Corradino prisons. He had also foreited his bail money.
