Survival of the fittest

Yesterday, my mother came rushing indoors locking the door behind her. She looked pale. I was about to ask her what happened when I heard the sounds of dogs barking. Every Sunday, Marsaxlokk has become a home for new stray dogs.

It is not only cruel to abandon your former pet but also dangerous.

Last week, I had the mis-fortune of witnessing one of the dogs ripping a cat to pieces. Survival of the fittest, they say. But what I say is think twice before buying a pet. No one likes to die of hunger in the streets. It's also a threat to the public having dogs around. I blame those who fuss over the dog when still a puppy but abandon it when it has grown.

I think everyone heard about the dog which killed a child in Italy. I hope we don't do something about it when tragedy hits home.
