The Barclay's Handicap Challenge at the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC) is played over two days and is one of the four premier competitions on the local calendar.

As the tournament title implies, handicap scores are applied thus giving all golfers an equal opportunity. Eighty-four participants entered and played on Day One. The best 54 were carried forward to Day Two.

The weather was favourable on both days and consequently the excellent scores reflected the ideal conditions.

Chris Bergedahl (Jr) playing off a handicap of two, was the winner on Day One with a net 64. He was followed by Paul Stoner (65), Patrick Carey (67) and Danny Saliba (67).

New names cropped up on Day Two.

Richard Crossley won with a net 65 playing with a handicap of 17, followed by Nicholas Beck (67), Paul Grey (67) and Chris Kinsella (68).

In the final analysis, the aggregate scores of the two days placed Bergedahl just in the lead with 135 followed by Crossley, Beck and Stoner, all with 136.

Beck (handicap 5), who is just 20-years-old, will be pleased with his placing. He has not played golf for the best part of nine months as he was away from the country.

The presentations ceremony was presided by Nigel Stibbs, Barclay's CEO, who also took part in both days of the competition.
