Appreciation - Maria Sacco

Fr Geoffrey G. Attard writes:

I would not like the death of Maria Sacco of Victoria to pass without writing down a few lines.

Maria Sacco was born in Victoria in 1942. She became a member of the Society of Christian Doctrine and served the society in various ways especially in Victoria and Ta' Kerċem.

I will always remember her as my teacher in Year 4 in the Victoria Primary School (now Sir Arturo Mercieca). She was very good in explaining to us students the detailed history of the Old Testament with which she made me familiar for the first time.

Maria died after an illness she struggled with courageously for the last four years of her life. She is the sister of Fr Karm Sacco SDB and Can Joseph Sacco of St George's Basilica, Gozo. Can Sacco helped Mgr Fortunato Mizzi in establishing the Social Action Movement in the diocese of Gozo.

Maria died on March 24, 2009 and her funeral Mass was celebrated at St George's parish, Victoria on March 25.

She will be sadly missed by her family, the members of the MUSEUM of Victoria and many relatives and friends.

May she rest in peace!
