Why does it have to be the authorities to control Health and Safety issues. Why isn't it the employer and the employee who are responsible. Does anyone really need to tell you to use an umbrella if you are going out in the rain???? I do believe that OHSA should be the adviser but not the enforcer. The enforcer should be the employer himself. Employees either stick to the rules or pack and leave!!!

OHSA only officially shows up when an accident happens.. there should be a H&S officer or project manager on site to show up for the contractor or site in question representing the contractor that needs to show risks and hazards.....

I am absolutely disgusted at the complete lack of interest in strengthening health and safety issues in the workplace. I am aware and sympathize with the fact that the OHSA only have a handful of inspectors to deal with every workplace in Malta, but it always seems that you hear about them being informed AFTER an incident happens and never before in time to possibly prevent it. I have voted for this government ever since I was of voting age, but I am becoming increasingly disillusioned at their lack of interest in people's well being. Beef up the resources at OHSA or wherever else is necessary so maybe one day we can go a much longer time without hearing of such tragedies.
