Muscat calls for debate on the needs of people with disabilities
Michelle Muscat greets one of the residents of Dar tal-Providenza.
Labour leader Joseph Muscat has called for a national debate on what happens to persons with disabilities once their parents pass away.
Dr Muscat raised the issue when he visited Dar tal-Providenza with Mrs Muscat.
He said Labour was committed to ensuring that Dar tal-Providenza was given the resources it needed to offer the best services to its residents. He said the state should listen more to the views of people with disabilities about their real needs.
He praised Dar tal-Providenza for its services and thanked the staff for their commitment.
Dr and Mrs Muscat were shown around by the director of the Home, Fr Martin Micallef, who said he was confident that Dr Muscat would be inspired by the values of respect and dignity for persons with disabilities. He said Maltese society had made great strides forward with regard to respect and dignity for such people and as a result, their quality of life had improved.
Dar tal-Providenza is home for more than 200 persons. It has a staff of 200.

At last I have heard these words from a person in a position to do somthing.I have heard these words from the mouth of a mother of a disabled child,Here only consolation was that her other son would certainly look after him but and here is the but, what if this other son needed to emrigrate from our islands what if this other son had to fall ill and require help and care himself. For the sake of the loving memory I have for this women(name witheld as she was a very popular women) Please someone do somthing.Dr Muscat I do not agree with your shade of politics but as the leader of oppositon of the country of which I am a citizen, please do not just throw somthing at the goverment and then forget about it, suggest somthing with real sense and real initiative, as one father to another I would say , we thank god that our children are able bodied , but what if God forbid they weren't wouldnt we want someone to do somthing? So please for the sake of these angels suggest somthing real.
