Recent successful sporting events (1)
I would like to congratulate all those involved in the organisation of the recent Tour ta' Malta cycle race and in particular John Zammit; what a hard-working official he is, perhaps the hardest working one I have ever met in my long career involved in cycling.
Special mention must be made of the support of the police, who allowed the cycle race to go ahead in really safe conditions. I know how difficult this must have been but they did a wonderful job in trying circumstances.
I agree with the reporter Paul Grech: "All this, apart from the obvious boost to tourism, also ensures there will be the 16th Tour ta' Malta. Cycling's positive week it seems, keeps getting better and better."
In order for the Maltese cyclists to improve their ability they must compete against cyclists from other countries and what better way than in the Tour ta' Malta?
As the person who brought Nicole Cooke to Malta when she was in my team I also think Anne de Wildt has racing talent, but to emulate what Nicole has achieved with an Olympic Gold medal and the World Championship in the same year might be a hurdle too far for her.
I am certainly ticking off the days to the next Tour ta' Malta and this time I hope the police will be able to allow the riders to race on the Sunday as they have in past years.
Well done to all who have been involved in this year's exciting stage race.
