Perhaps the best way to curb or stop illegal immigration is to hunt down human traffickers and let the courts impose harsh penalties. The maximum term of imprisonment is five years. But only the other day a human trafficker from Ghana was jailed for seven months. This is ludicrous! In a few months he will be free to return to Libya or Ghana to resume his criminal activities.

Are we serious in wanting to end illegal immigration? If so, the courts have a duty to keep human traffickers out of circulation. Short sentences will not act as a deterrent.
