Journalists criticise ceremony logistics
The Institute of Maltese Journalists yesterday condemned the way journalists and cameramen were treated by the Department of Information while they were reporting President's inauguration ceremony.
Numerous reports of incidents between DOI officials and representatives of the press and broadcasting media on duty reached the IĠM Council.
Details of where cameramen, journalists and photographers were to stay were agreed during meetings held a day earlier, but the agreement was not honoured by DOI officials, the IĠM said.
Journalists were relegated to the last row in the Grand Council Chamber where they could hardly hear the speeches as they were delivered. When the journalists protested with senior DOI officials, they were informed that the Office of the President was responsible for the arrangements.
Journalists also complained because cameramen working for Where's Everybody were allowed access to areas that were out of bounds to cameramen - excluding the ones with the State broadcaster - from other media houses.

Many times watching news coverage of such important events one would notice photographers hovering right infront of VIP's. Such as what happened during the president's signing in ceremony and his first official address. i strongly believe that journalists and photographers should not feature in the film footage, they should keep back and do their thing from a respectable distance.

Oh my this is rich. The pots (IGM whatever this means) calling the kettle black. How about telling us about the arrogance shown by some of these 'journalists' vis a vis the officials concerned? How about telling us about all the arrogance by some of these scores of 'independent' Journalists/photographers? How about telling us about what happened during the walk of the Presidnet when the police had to intervene to move back all these scores of journalists and photographers just to cover a ten minute walk. I was among the crowd and could see these photographers/journalists jumping upon each other just to take a photo. And all the people shouting at them to let them see the President since they were hiding him from us.
