The 18th national annual engineering conference 'Fuelling the future', organised by the Chamber of Engineers (CoE) will be held on April 16 at the Hilton Malta. The impact energy has on the environment and the cost of conventional energy and renewables are key problems that inspired this year's choice of title.

The programme includes research papers on a vast number of sectors by local and foreign researchers. These will be presenting various positions on aspects of policy, technology and solutions that apply to the local scenario. The first part of the conference will deal mostly with issues of policy, including the national strategy on climate change, energy, electricity generation plans and the inter-relationship of energy, economy and the environment.

During the second part of the conference, a number of presentations on renewable and alternative technologies will be discussed. These will include papers on deep heat mining and Malta's potential to harvest geothermal energy, wind farm development, photo-voltaics and energy from waste.

Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in two workshops and a number of technical presentations by various stakeholders in industry, adding value and recognition to the event and the chamber.

The titles of the workshops are 'The climate change strategy: adopting and adapting' and 'Renewable and alternative technologies'.

On registration, one is to clearly indicate the workshop he/she wishes to take part in.

For registration and further details, e-mail the conference committee at conference@coe.org.mt, call 2133 4858 or visit www.coe.org.mt.
