The Christian Democratic Students (SDM) have been re-elected to the University Students' Council (KSU), beating rival bloc ACT by a narrow margin. It will be the third year in succession that the KSU will be formed by the SDM.

The SDM block vote candidates won 1,215 votes and ACT 1,008.

There were 577 mixed votes and 12 votes which were invalid.

ACT is a coalition of 12 student organisations.

The election was held yesterday and saw a turnout of 22 percent, a slight increase over the last election two years ago. A total of almost 12,000 students at the University and the Junior College were entitled to vote.

SDM also won the election in 2007 and formed the council again last year when no candidates other than its own came forward to contest.
