The House of Representatives yesterday unanimously approved the first reading of the Various Laws relating to Civil Matters Bill and the General Elections (Amendment) Bill.

Two other Bills were given a third reading: the Equality for Men and Women (Amendment) Bill and the Employment and Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill. The two Bills amend the Acts in line with directives of the Council of the European Union.

Proposing the adjournment, Leader of the House Tonio Borg said that after next Saturday's appointment of Dr Abela as President, the House would rise for the Easter recess and would reconvene on Monday, April 20.
