LPG price 'lowest in Europe'
The price of bottled gas (LPG) in Malta was still the lowest in Europe despite the announced increases, the Infrastructure Ministry said.
The ministry said this fact defeated the Labour Party's argument that gas prices had risen in Malta while they were falling in Europe.
The ministry said LPG prices in Malta had not changed since 1997, except in 2004 when VAT was raised from 15 to 18 per cent.
The new prices were approved by the Malta Resources Authority in January but the government opted to retain its subsidy in full for a further two months, at a cost of €800,000, the ministry said.
The ministry also pointed out that the government would continue to subsidise the product at €150,000 a month.

DOES the government know that our wages are less than the rest of Europe ???
Stop comparing our things with EU. If they are cheap leave them cheap and not find excuses to suck more money from people pockets.
Our wages are not high comparing to the rest of EU! And our government increment is not high as the misters are getting in the budget.

It is a fact that the Government promised the EU Commission that the deficit was a one-off and that taxes are going to be increased to make sure that we stay within the budget criteria. This is why other countries were rapped for excessive budget deficit but Malta was not.
Apart from the EU minimum tax on energy products which the government cannot disregard, this is why when fuel, gas and electricity prices have been going down in other countries their prices have increased in Malta, because the government wants to balance the budget as the Prime Minister had promised the EU Commission.
In other words, WE are paying for the government INCOMPETENCE.

It is a fact that in 19 European countries the cost of LPG is the lowest. Having said that the Minister or the MRA have to give details of the production cost price, more to the point what percentage of the cost price is to cover losses. Since the present prices will be the basis of Gasco costing.
As regard price comparison it is also relevant to know the type of LPG and the tax makeup?
By the way as per the Europe Energy Portal; Fuel at the pump in Malta is the 9th most expensive from 28 Countries, while the cost of the electricity @ .0121/ Kwh is the 5th most cheap. If adjusted to 0.147 it will be the 10th most cheap.

The socialist propaganda machine seems to be having its desired effect.
It is true that wages in Malta are below average, however wages are by far not the lowest in Europe or indeed the EU.
Average wages in Malta are higher than in the following EU countries: Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and non-EU European countries such as Albania, Ukraine and Belarus.

John Caruana and L . Galea were here before I was, but again Mr. Minister.....LPG prices may be the lowest in Europe but so are our wages. How come you don't boast about the latter one too?

So was Fuel. It used to be the cheapest in Europe and now it's the same as in the UK which has the most expensive Fuel prices in the E U. Why put the prices of Gas up while they are still making a profit ? Is it because they want to retire at 50 and tour the world?

"The ministry said LPG prices in Malta had not changed since 1997, except in 2004 when VAT was raised from 15 to 18 per cent."
This meant a 20% increase in VAT Minister.
This also shows that the consumers are paying VAT because of eu orders Minister.
The increase is also because the eu dictates the minimum tax that should be paid on energy products.
"The new prices were approved by the Malta Resources Authority in January but the government opted to retain its subsidy in full for a further two months, at a cost of €800,000, the ministry said."
This means that we can expect a further increase in the price in a couple of months. Nice conscience that the eu and Gonezipn have.
Let's get out of the eu yoke and decide in our best interests not according to the eu petty dictators diktats.

Gas might be the lowest in Europe but so are the salaries. Who are we trying to kid here? This statement from the ministry doesn't solve anything. Its just a political word game!!!!
