Drivers from 12 countries, including Malta, yesterday figured in two legs of the 2009 Mediterranean Championships at the Marsa Racetrack. Malta's representative in trotting was George Schembri and Michael Sultana took part in the flat leg.
Magomet A. Kappushev, of Russia, on Privileged Boy had an outstanding finish to go on and win by half-a-length over Sultana's Docklands Brian.
Just the Best (Jean Michael Sanches, France) and Fairscourt (Akin Sozen, Turkey) were third and fourth respectively as Tunisian jockey Mounir Mansouri was thrown off his mount Kharsak.
Italy's Mario Ferrara led Lupin Du But to victory in the trotting championship race after leading for most of the distance.
Noble Spirit (J.P. Fasquelle, France), Lajos Useful (A.S. Oliveira, Portugal) and Kirk De Cossio (G. Schembri) entered second, third and fourth respectively.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
