Finca Sophenia, represented in Malta by Bicanter Wines, has been in the news recently following excellent reviews from world-renowned wine critic Robert Parker in The Wine Advocate.

Finca Sophenia, an Argentinian wine-maker is one of the top quality wine producers that have come out of Argentina in recent years.

"Customers that have tried Finca Sophenia have been surprised by the quality and price ratio for such good wines. This is no surprise to us since this winery has excellent results. We are pleased to offer the Maltese market yet another wine house that has a very good price quality ratio," said John Farrugia, director of Bicanter.

Their signature wine, the 2006 Sythensis The Blend was given 93 points, an exceptional result for Argentinian wines. It is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a collector's wine that will improve over the next four to six years with its prime drinking window being 2013 to 2028.

This is not the only wine that attracted Robert Parket's attention. In fact, Robert Parker awarded 90 points to the 2007 Synthesis Savignon Blanc and 89 points to the 2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon stating this is a very good value quality Cabernet which will be at its best from this year to 2017.

The 2007 Malbec Reserve and the 2007 Synthesis Malbec, which is the indigenous grape of Argentina, were both awarded 90 points.

Finca Sophenia is owned by Roberto Luka who was formerly president of Wines of Argentina. The winemaking consultant is French national Michel Rolland.
