Updated: Police bust drug trafficking operation
Gabriel Alin Fister, 25, a Romanian who lives in Germany, this morning pleaded not guilty in court to trafficking and importing a kilo of cocaine and a kilo of heroin. He was denied bail because he does not have a fixed residence in Malta.
Earlier, the police in a statement said the man arrived in Malta on Sunday/Monday night on a flight from Amsterdam. The police alleged he was carrying the drugs in two large packets in a hidden compartment in his luggage.
The police said that after receiving information that a foreigner was importing drugs, the Drug Squad together with the Customs Enforcement Unit stopped the Romanian at the airport.
The police later identified the persons who had been going to receive the drugs and arrested two men from Ivory Coast, residing in Zabbar and Qawra. The men are aged 27 and 30, respectively.
At the Qawra residence the police found around 80 grammes of heroin and items related to drug trafficking.

It seems that in your comments, you FORGOT to praise ALSO the Customs personnel who are doing an equivalent sterling job in preventing illecit drugs from being imported.
On many occasions, it is the Customs personnel who 'discover' the harmful drugs. The police are then called in, to take over the investigations etc.
I would like to praise also the other security entity - the Armed Forces of Malta - who also contribute on many occasions to seizures of illegal drugs.
KEEP IT UP... ... Police, Customs and AFM personnel.... ...THANK YOU for your work.

I would like to commend the Police for their valuable work.
Let's hope that lawcourts act in a way that doesn't throw all this hard and good work down the suspended sentences' drain.

Thanks to the police for protecting our youths from drugs.
I only hope that after serving their sentence the traffickers will be expelled from Malta for life.
