Gabriel Alin Fister, 25, a Romanian who lives in Germany, this morning pleaded not guilty in court to trafficking and importing a kilo of cocaine and a kilo of heroin. He was denied bail because he does not have a fixed residence in Malta.

Earlier, the police in a statement said the man arrived in Malta on Sunday/Monday night on a flight from Amsterdam. The police alleged he was carrying the drugs in two large packets in a hidden compartment in his luggage.

The police said that after receiving information that a foreigner was importing drugs, the Drug Squad together with the Customs Enforcement Unit stopped the Romanian at the airport.

The police later identified the persons who had been going to receive the drugs and arrested two men from Ivory Coast, residing in Zabbar and Qawra. The men are aged 27 and 30, respectively.

At the Qawra residence the police found around 80 grammes of heroin and items related to drug trafficking.
