A coalition of University student organisations which is presenting a joint candidature for the student council elections said today that one of its priorities would be to facilitate transport and parking for university students.
ACT, which groups 11 student organisations, will be contesting the KSU student council elections on Thursday.
One of its spokesmen, Ian Turban, said this morning that transport and parking were an acute problem for university students. He said students were sometimes arriving late for lectures, or missing them altogether, because they could not find parking.
He said that should its candidates be elected, ACT would work for the setting up of a task force to study this problem and propose solutions. The task force would include transport and planning experts.
The task force, while looking into more parking options, would also discuss better public transport, the sharing of the Mater Dei Hospital car park and park and ride schemes.
The plan is for the first proposals to be made by August.
