Journalists and opinion writers from The Times and timesofmalta.com are among the finalists chosen for the 19th edition of the journalism awards organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists.
The 36 finalists were chosen out of a total of 57 that had submitted material for the 12 main categories.
The nominees are:

For the first time this year, a separate jury including a professional photographer will analyse the submissions for the photography and sports journalism category. The jury will choose the winner based on criteria applied in international photography competitions.
Awards will also be presented for the use of Maltese language in journalism and the 10th edition of the Gold Award will recognise an individual who has made a significant contribution to journalism along the years.
The jury will be preparing a detailed report on the submissions, which will be presented on the final night on May 2.
