Green apartments planned in €18 million Marsalforn project
The Atlantis Hotel in Marsalforn Bay will be demolished to make way for 150 green apartments in a development worth €18 million.
The apartments will be fitted with an insulation system that makes use of thermal panels on the roof to save energy from air-conditioning units and ceramic panels will be attached to the façade to control the temperature inside. Baron Group director Xavier Tabone said he believed the project would enhance the village and boost its economic activity.
He is insisting on more creativity in the design of new buildings to reflect personality and move away from the uniformity of box-shaped structures. Mr Tabone explained that in the Marsalforn project 50 different unit layouts were designed, specifically steering away from linear structures. Stress was also made on better use of light, maximising open spaces and apertures everywhere.

We have no spirit - we're just there, constantly destroying the natural beauty of our country.
Viva the Green GonziPN!!

What's so green about these? They're just another chunk of concrete as all the other buildings.
They remind me of many student residences in Europe.
You want green?: then have some open places, plant some nice tree and that's it!

What on earth are you all going on about. Of course it's green. Can't you see the tree and couple of shrubs in the photo?

Green apartments!!!!! What ?? This is the trend now to call green buildings. Pathetic. There is nothing greener than the grass / trees around us.

Another addition to hundreds of vacant flats in Marsalforn. What a loss for tourism in Gozo. Other Hotels may follow soon in Gozo.

The only reason why Tourists (including the domestic ones) visit Gozo is for its tranquillity and its different character....only as long as it lasts. Continue tempering with Gozo's character and there will NO valid reason for anyone to holiday on the Island. aren't Xlendi monstrous hill top apartments and all the invasive development around ‘Qolla is safra’ enough to learn from mistakes? Gozo is not the attractive Island it once used to be and its reputation is being lost very fast. Xewkija to Rabat + the villages attached to Rabat make one big built up area (check google earth out!). Don’t be fooled that Gozo is some kind of rural retreat, could have been one day but very fast losing the very ingredients that attracted so many visitors! - I think they call it killing the hen that lays the golden eggs.

That makes it at €120K per apartment. How many 'real people' are going to afford to live in these green palaces? But I agree. It is not an issue of 'who can'. It is a matter of the government making REAL situations where people and families on normal salaries can start making a contribution to a green economy. And that does not mean a 15% discount for the first 250 1/3 who apply for the scheme.

Do you really believe that because the flats will be green that'll make a difference? They will still be high buildings and as one knows there are enough being built at the moment. Do you really think that tourists want to go on holiday to a busy place where all you see are buildings? We've been spending the last 20 yrs our holidays in Marsalforn s we love Gozo, but , for us the last years it has lost it's charm as a lot of the old buildings and sfeer have gone, so please reconsider before you keep on building cause it's already spoilt . Gozo is too precious and beautiful keep it like that ,money isn't everything You'll only lose more tourists!
