Updated: Muscat asks Commissioner to investigate comments by ministers
(Adds PN reaction)
Labour leader Joseph Muscat has asked the Police Commissioner to investigate comments which the PL said were made by two ministers during a meeting of the PN parliamentary group on January 31.
The party said that Dr Muscat had a meeting with Police Commissioner John Rizzo yesterday during which the Labour leader gave details about the PN group meeting.
The PL said that a particular minister had said that EU funding had become available for the proposed extension of the museum of St John’s Co-Cathedral “because there was someone who knew how to play the game”.
Another minister during the same meeting spoke of “undue pressure” on public officers.
The Labour Party did not disclose the names of the ministers.
Dr Muscat was accompanied by party president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.
The PN in a reaction said the allegations about the parliamentary group meeting had already been denied, and it was a shame that Dr Muscat was trying to involve the Police Commissioner in partisan politics.
The PN said it viewed Dr Muscat's statement as an attempt to deviate public attention after he was proved wrong when he said that Malta was a net contributor to the EU, and after it was also shown that Malta would be wrong to veto EU decisions because of the issue of illegal migrants, as Dr Muscat had suggested.

To M Galea & C Sapiano: Maybe if you re-read the article and understand its contents, you would regret the minute you wrote the comment you did!!!! Keep up your positive attitude towards a better Malta with better values and better politics, Dr. Muscat!

@ Joanne Farrugia - PL apologists should be the last ones to talk about lies and U-TURNS. No to Europe right! Have a look at the background on the photo. U-TURN? Smiles, lies and petty arguments will not get one anywhere, just like Sant.

Although I have always supported the PN, I thought Joseph Muscat would bring about a strong opposition that the government so sorely needs. And I'm disappointed in that, once again, the government has no real adversary. JM, with these banal accusations, keeps showing how immature he is. What a ridiculous situation we're in!

What is happening to Dr.Muscat? Is he becoming like the previous leader? He is making many gaffes - his absence from certain official ceremonies, his lack of respect towards the Courts...

In reply to your "Don't worry my friend. Gonzi will last the 5 days no doubt about that" I see no cause to quarrel. I agree that Gonzi will last 5 days. It's about his lasting 4 years that I was questioning. Or well, 4 years minus 5 days, if you're finicky about details.

How can anyone not investigate allegations made by PN ministers about there own party?
The PN is surely showing signs of trouble from within.

Why nobody asks how Muscat came to know of such comments hinting at criminal abuse within the inner sanctorum of the PN?

How true it is that "hope is eternal and the last thing to die". When are we going to change our mentality and start working together for the benefit of the country??
And this goes for BOTH SIDES. We were promised new ways of doing politics and it is nowhere near. Other countries have seen the light and we have been stuck in the past.
Just listen to the 1930 hrs and 1945 hrs news and you think you are in the 70's and 80's
How sad it is for this country. The people deserve better but then the people get what they deserve!!!

Quoting: "it was a shame that Dr Muscat was trying to involve the Police Commissioner in partisan politics" ...
Why not????? Aren't people responsible for words they say? Even more if these people are in politics thus representing us citizens? So, again, why not? I am only wondering why PN chose to add "partisan" before politics! (??)
Quoting again "The PN said it viewed Dr Muscat's statement as an attempt to deviate public attention" .......
Well ... I cannot but laugh out loud at this one! Deviate what?????
My advice ... next time think of something better prior to adding a "PN reaction"!!

Is this a joke?
Since when in a democracy people cannot comment as they wish and where is the freedom of speech?
Do we have to be vigilant when we talk or express an opinion without the fear of the Commissioner of Police breathing down our necks?
Reminds me of Communist Russia!
UNBELIEVABLE!

Is this the same game that Labour already played in the last general elections? Mud throwing became an agenda in this country..and its for that politics lost credibility....bring proofs and there is no need of police because than the citizens will decide at the end

What exactly did the Labour Leader tell the Commissioner of Police?
From the report it seems that Dr Muscat went to tell the Commissioner, that in a meeting were he was not present, two ministers told something he did not hear himself, and he would not tell who said what.
Presumably, the Commissioner is now in possession of a lot of reliable information on which to act! Really impressive.

Never were these ministers worthier voices of the Maltese citizens. Indeed they were simply airing what every citizen with a modicum of common sense had been saying on the streets and squares up and down the country. One hopes Dr Muscat will not keep us dangling in the suspense the story has generated. Small wonder the PN propaganda media is up in arms in a desperate bid to silence the Opposition. Does anyone have any doubt that EU funding had become available for the proposed extension of the museum of St John’s Co-Cathedral “because there was someone who knew how to play the game”? What is perhaps more important is that another minister during the same meeting referred to by Dr Muscat spoke of “undue pressure” on public officers. What is the country coming to? This is another question on the lips of an increasingly great number of Maltese citizens these days. Does GonziPN really believe it can last the coming four years in such an atmosphere? Even if it somehow does, it will face a humiliating defeat the like of which has not been seen since the 1830s.

Labourites deserve an Opposition worthy of its name - an alternative government and not don quixotes running after windmills. He is wasting the people's time and money as well as the police commissioner's time and his salary. Surely Joseph Muscat is being taken for a ride.

The Police asked to investigate alleged comments in a PN parliamentary group meeting. In my opinion this is an undemocratic move. What we want to hear from J Muscat is that the MLP is going to give back to the owners houses who were requestioned under the MLP administration (1971-1987) and turned as Labour Clubs.
