The Dance Workshop has proved to be one of the most exciting dance schools on the island, producing a stimulating evening of theatrical dance annually.
Dreams and Resolutions, its 10th annual dance production, is being presented at St Agatha’s Auditorium next month.
The programme will be divided in two parts, with the first dedicated to all little girls who dream of being a princess. The Sleeping Beauty is probably the most famous fairy tale immortalised in the ballet world. Fairies, courtiers and nymphs are some of the magical characters bringing to life the story of a young princess who has been cursed by the wicked Carabosse.
Soloists from The Dance Workshop will be performing original choreography while the children’s dances have been adapted to suit younger dancers. Pamela Kerr will be leading the cast as Aurora while Keith Micallef will be her gallant prince. Christina Aquilina will be playing the beautiful Lilac Fairy while Karl Cini will take on the role of the wicked Carabosse. During the second half of the programme, leading choreographers present their interpretations of Dreams and Resolutions. A passionate traveller, Theresa Lungaro-Mifsud, explores the culture, music and landscapes of South America in her desire to explore more parts of the world in Sonando col Argentina. Rachel Axisa’s I Have a Dream focuses on Martin Luther King’s famous speech from 1963 and on the trials and tribulations of thousands of people who were forced to live as slaves.
Dreams and Resolutions is being presented at St Agatha’s Auditorium on April 7 and 8. Tickets may be obtained from The Dance Workshop in Gzira (afternoons/evenings) and The Dance Studio, Kappara (shop hours). Ticket hotline: 9942 9233 or 2124 2465.
