Stolen 11th century parchments recovered
This Spanish police handout shows one of the 16 parchments dating from the 11th century which were stolen from the municipal archives of the northern city of Huesca in 1997. Spanish police said 15 of the stolen parchments were recovered in a Barcelona auction house. The 16th parchment was retrieved from a private citizen who apparently bought it in 1998. Two of the parchments were about to be sold at the Barcelona auction house which was asking for an opening bid of €80,000 for the pair, they said in a statement.
