A 23-year-old man was this morning jailed for two years after admitting to holding a 71-year-old shopkeeper against her will.

Eman Ebejer, of Kirkop also admitted to threatening the elderly lady with a lighter and damaging the door of the shop in Archbishop Street, Valletta.

Mr Ebejer visited the woman's shop at around noon yesterday and demanded €20. He placed a lighter against the shop owner's stomach and she started screaming. Passers-by called the police who arrived within minutes and arrested Mr Ebejer.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi jailed Mr Ebejer for two years after taking into consideration his full cooperation with the police and that he only had three minor offences on his criminal record.
