Newly-merged MTS-Operon is planning to branch out into facilities management and provide a one-stop service to owners for all buildings services, including mechanical and electrical maintenance, ground maintenance, cleaning, catering, mail, IT and environmental management.

MTS-Operon chairman Sigfus Jonsson made this announcement during the official opening of the company's new premises in Mosta on Monday.

MTS is a Maltese firm of building services engineers providing consultancy and design Services, first established in Malta in 1975. It merged with Operon of the United Kingdom in March last year.

Over the years, MTS has been directly responsible for, or has participated in, a number of major projects in Malta and overseas. These include Portomaso and the Hilton, the Intercontinental, the Corinthia San Ġorġ, Tigné Point and Manoel Island Development, Malta International Airport, Valletta Waterfront, Vodafone, Baxter, Arrow Pharma, Actavis, the Malta Stock Exchange and the Central Bank of Malta.

The company has offices in Libya and Dubai and a new one will be opened soon in Malaysia. It has designed projects in Libya and Sudan.

MTS was set up in 1975 to meet specific market demands in the building engineering services sector.

It was the first privately-owned building services consulting company in Malta.

The company is also involved in other business activities including surveys, evaluation, audits, servicing and maintenance of engineering plants and systems. It employs 50 people.

Tonio Fenech, Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment, attended the opening of the company's new office in Mosta.

He expressed his satisfaction at the growth of the company and said MTS-Operon is a forward-looking company that, despite a difficult international economic climate, is planning to expand its business. Mr Fenech said this was good news for the country's economy.
