A man accused of drug possession and money laundering was remanded in custody today after a court said that would be safer for him, in view of his drug habit.

Elton Brincat, 30, of Hamrun, pleaded not guilty to possession of cocaine and cannabis and money laundering.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi said he was recommending to the prison authorities that the accused be given immediate help for his drug problem.

The police said yesterday that €19.000 in cash, 80 grams of heroin and some 30 grams of cannabis resin were found in a raid in a Hamrun residence.
