Nazzareno Attard defied the poor weather conditions at the Bidnija Ranges yesterday to clinch first place in the Breda Cup Trap competition organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation.

With the winds blowing in all directions, it was hard for shooters to register high scores but notwithstanding the unfavourable circumstances, Attard stayed focused to top the leaderboard after hitting a 20 in the barrage final to secure overall victory.

Attard finished with a tally of 132, two clays better off than runner-up Stanley Cardona and four ahead of third-placed Lino Galea.

Cardona had the best score in the final, a 22. Despite his creditable effort, he could only narrow the gap between him and Attard in the end.

Meanwhile, the next competition at Bidnija will be another selection shoot for Skeet and Double Trap next weekend.

This will be the last in the series before two shooters in each discipline will earn the right to represent the country in the Games of the Small States of Europe.
