The Labour Party said this evening that the 22.2% proposed cut in the energy tariffs announced by Enemalta earlier today meant that Maltese consumers would not fully enjoy the drop in international oil prices.
"Should the government want to be fair with consumers, the adjustment should be 30% and it should be backdated and not apply from April 1 as announced," the PL said.
The party said the proposed revision was overdue but the uncertainty created when the new tariffs were announced in October would not be eased. This, the PL said, was convenience politics with the government's eye being on the European Parliament elections.
