Enemalta Corporation is awaiting approval from the Malta Resources Authority for new power tariffs which will see an average cut of 22.2 percent, Enemalta said this afternoon.
The new tariffs will come into force on April 1.
The corporation said the new tariffs would favour most those who consume least and those who use consumption wisely, while retaining the eco-contribution with the same parameters as at present. It said residential tariffs would go down between 24% and 25%. Cuts for the non residential sector would be about 26%. Properties where no one is registered as living, such as garages and common areas in apartment blocks, will be classified under a new 'domestic' category and the rates in that case will not change.
