Facades of President's Palace, Castille, to be restored
Restoration of the facade of the National Library is nearing completion.
Restoration works on the facade of the President’s Palace in Valletta will be taken in hand shortly, Resources Minister George Pullicino said today.
Restoration of the facade of the Auberge de Castille will also be started in the coming weeks.
The minister was speaking when he inspected works on the facade of the National Library in Valletta, which are nearing completion.
The National Library was the last major building built at the time of the Knights, and also one of the finest. But the stonework has suffered from weathering and had also been damaged by nails and other metal objects, the Resources Ministry said.
The project consisted of the restoration of the stonework and a clean-up of the facade. The same process will be repeated at the Palace and the Auberge de Castille. Restoration work will also be carried out on the St Lucija side of St John’s Co-Cathedral.

Get those trees and numerous umbrellas out of the way if the square is to be returned to its former splendour.

It is good to hear that at last we will be looking after these National Treasures. What I can't take is exactly the situation we have in Front of the National Library...A total mess with tables, chairs and Sun Umbrellas. Three resturants/cafeterias, three colours, three shapes and designs of furniture. To rub the salt in the wound, during closing hours all umbrellas will be closed to leave a full mess of electrical cables be exposed like washing lines.
Can somebody take action by putting together a set standardisation rules, that everyone has to observe without any exception. For those who ever visited Piazza del Campo in Siena knows exactly what I’m talking about. All outlets have the same design and colour canopies, typeface (New roman times), White typeface etc. Design that will not affect the surroundings. When are we going start respecting the history of our country?
