Four production houses share €223,000 fund

Four production Houses are to share a fund of €223,000 for the production of a short film and three documentaries.

They are Lighthouse Communications, which are producing a short film entitled Hamlet of Strait Street, Falkun Film Productions, which will produce a documentary entitled Dear Dom, WE Production for a documentary on the Simshar tragedy and MPS Picture Box for a documentary entitled Reefs for the Future.

The awards were announced today by Education and Culture Minister Dolores Cristina, who said this Film Fund had been launched to promote the local audio-visual industry.

She said there had been strong interest in the fund, with 15 applications having been received. The total amount of assistance requested reached €600,000.

She said the Culture and Audio-Visual Unit within her ministry, the EU Media Desk, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and the Malta Film Commission were seeking to create more initiatives such as this.

The applications were considered by a board composed of Prof Brian Winston, Agnes Havas, Prof Gloria Lauri Lucente and Fr Joe Borg.
