Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo is to follow his box office hits Red Cliff and Red Cliff 2 with a new film to be shot in China this year, the Beijing News reported yesterday.

Woo is best known internationally for directing Hollywood blockbusters Mission: Impossible 2 and Face/Off.

His new film has the working title Pacific Steamer and tells the story of the sinking of a steam boat en route from mainland China to Taiwan in 1949 as the civil war ends, the paper said, billing it the 'Titanic of the east'.
