BirdLife slams MEP's 'election stunt'
BirdLife Malta this afternoon criticised Labour MEP John Attard Mntalto for signing a petition drawn up by the hunters' federation, branding his action 'an election stunt'.
"The FKNK petition entitled "Equal, Human & Citizen Rights in the EU" makes no reference to issues regarding hunting but states that the signatories subscribe 'to the fundamental principle that all Maltese Nationals have the right to expect.the same human and citizen rights as those enjoyed by other EU citizens in other EU Member States..'" BirdLife said.
"Since there is no reference to spring hunting or trapping in the FKNK petition, Dr Attard Montalto should explain what he is appealing for with the hunters to the EU, BirdLife said.
It said that as an MEP, Dr Attard Montalto should know that Maltese nationals are being treated the same as other EU citizens.
"If his reference by signing the FKNK petition is to spring hunting then Dr Attard Montalto should be made aware that EU law forbids spring hunting and trapping. Furthermore hunting is not a human right whereas the equal application of the law is." said Joseph Mangion, President of BirdLife Malta.

BirdLife, we have become accustomed to your deceitful messages. Even Nicoletta Flessati has exposed you. What is all this fuss about?! This piece of news did not quite please you eh? One would expect you to instruct your members to sign the FKNK petition rather than indulging in your usual unfounded arguments! But then, you are comfortable seeing the Maltese hunters and trappers being treated as second-class citizens. How selfish indeed!

Dear Birdlife members,
WHERE ARE YOUR BILLBOARDS paid by the EU through taxes that even our country transfers to Brussels?

@ A Sultana..........but of course! How silly of me. You must mean the rabbits, the pigs, the cows, the sheep, the fish, the chickens, the turkeys etc etc. All the food most of us eat. Only difference is it's SOOO sanitised, packaged, frozen and pre-cooked. Just pop out to the supermarket and appease your conscience!
Sorry, my friend - it's either all or nothing if you want to use this moral argument. Meanwhile, I reiterate, Birdlife butts in only when it suits Birdflife to do so, usually to gain brownie points. In my book, that is double-faced hypocrisy. Nothing new. Just more of the same.

Hmmm... birdlife accusing others of cheap stunts .. now now.. Messers Raine, Temuge and Mangion, you should know a thing or two about throwing stunts. Over the past years we have seen very dubious and gory pictures of dead birds supposedly to try and impress the public, provocative billboards, over inflated figures which have become the norm of the day and an incessant campaign to eradicate hunting and trapping from our lives. And all of this funded from the EU !! I'm pretty sure that next year's Oscar for the best movie stunts will be awarded to no one else but to BLM.

Mr. Mangion
"Dr Attard Montalto should be made aware that EU law forbids spring hunting and trapping. "
SO WAS TRAPPING WITH CLAP NET BANNED BY THE EU according to your very knowledgeable Executive Director T.T.
Only he was proved wrong by The Malta EU commission that stated, trapping was allowed under derogation from the Birds Directive.
SO MUCH FOR THE USUAL NONSENSE USED TO INFLUENCE PUBLIC OPINION!!

Dear birdlife, please re-read this article again. Nicoletta Flessati, press officer, European Commission, Representation in Malta wrote it in plain and simple English. Maybe you need a trapper to spoon feed it to you.

YES WE ARE BEING TREATED AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS. Since in other EU countries, hunting and traping is allowed all year round, then we should at least be allowed to hunt and trap in spring.
So, since there is no reference to spring hunting or trapping in the FKNK petition, birdlife should also sign the petition. Well, on second thoughts, birdlife might not want equal rights to everyone since we might take a slice from their pie stuffed with millions of EUROS.

Ha ha ha. When it comes to stunts, few can come even close to Birdlife! They are, after all, the experts in slick timing of anti-hunting propoganda, obtaining funding to "educate" trappers via provocative billboards, smearing many thousands of law-abiding hunters because of the actions of a sick minority, agitating against Malta in the EU, encouraging nosey-parkers to stick their ill-informed noses in our business, and on and on.
Why, when Edward Demicoli (a PN candidate for the EU elections and ex-deputy head of MIC which published acres of guarantees to hunters!) came out recently against Spring Hunting, did Birdlife say NOTHING? If ever there was a CHEAP, DOUBLE-FACED ELECTION STUNT, this sure was it!!!!!
