One year after MEPA stopped construction of a two-storey concrete building in scenic Dwejra, Gozo, no action has been taken by the authorities to remove the eyesore, Alternattiva Demokratika has complained.

“It is unfair that whereas the ordinary citizen faces stiff fines, the government and its affiliate authorities carry on in their routine administrative tasks as if no illegalities ever occurred," party leader Arnold Cassola said.

AD yesterday symbolically marked the anniversary when its European Parliament candidates and members of the Gozo Regional Council visited this site.

One of the candidates, Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros, said it was shameful that the Prime Minister, responsible for the environment and its impact on the tourist sector, had failed to take action to safeguard this unique site in the Maltese islands.

"On the pretext that the authorities are investigating irregularities concerning its approved plan, he permits such a scandal to remain stark naked a year later to all the thousands of visitors in guided tours to the Inland Sea”.
