Woman accused of €3,300 fraud
Alexia Cross, 29, of Burmarrad, was today accused in court of stealing cheques and defrauding four people and 16 shops out of nearly €3,300 last summer.
Ms Cross, 29, is currently in custody after having also been arraigned last week when she pleaded not guilty to stealing cheques from a shop in Qormi and then using one of them to rent a car. Those investigations led the police to uncover the full extent of the woman’s alleged spending spree which lasted from July to September last year. She spent a total of €3,287 after allegedly defrauding four people and 16 shops including a supermarket, meat shop and a hotel.
Ms Cross also pleaded not guilty to stealing another two cheque books from a hotel in Msida and from an apartment in St Paul’s Bay, and relapsing.
In last week’s arraignment Ms Cross had pleaded with a court not to remand her in custody because she might be pregnant and being in prison was not an ideal situation.
The prosecuting officer, Police Inspector Angelo Gafà, had told the court that this was just another one of her tall stories and that she could not be trusted.

Well, I shall not go into the merits of this case, as it is still 'sub-judice'. I just want to commend Insp Angelo Gafa for his sterling work he is currently performing. The police have done their part, now it rests on the court to administer justice. Justice need not only be done, but be seen to be done.
Perhaps before passing judgement, if guilt is found, compensation to all those concerned, even if this goes beyond the remit of the police is in fact considered.
Once again Insp Gafa.... thank you. ( even if I have no connection with either party)
