The Michele Peresso Group of Companies is opening an Upim department store in Victoria at The Duke Shopping Centre on Saturday. The Upim brand is familiar to the many Maltese who travel to Italy.
During the official opening of the shopping centre last November, the Michele Peresso Group opened four retail outlets, Adidas, Skechers, and their latest two acquired franchise brands, Bata and Fergi.
Upim will have a retail shopping area of 550 sqm, making it the largest retail outlet in Gozo, and will specialise in the general retail of women's wear, men's wear, children's wear, home and beauty.
Upim has 153 direct stores and 204 franchises located in all parts of the Italy as well as in Albania and Croatia.
The Michele Peresso Group has acquired other locations in Malta to open even larger premises under the Upim brand and these will be opened in the coming months.
Upim Italy will monitor the Gozo operations on a daily basis and provide a constant and regular logistic support. "This is important to build up, consolidate and continuously update and improve our services and attention to our new potential distinguished customers," a company statement said.
"It is with satisfaction for the Michele Peresso Group to receive the full trust from our principals, Upim, and for the company to invest in our country, after having embarked on an expansion programme which sees Upim opening stores in various parts of Europe," the statement said.
Today there are a number of high profile investors in Upim including Deutsche Bank, Pirelli Re and the Borletti family.
Upim will be distributing environmental friendly bags with every purchase at the new outlet in Victoria and will also introduce a loyalty card for all its customers from the first day of opening.
