Over 90 consuls of Malta residing in 49 countries visited SmartCity Malta this afternoon and were briefed about the plans and potential of the project.

The consuls are in Malta for a Consular Representation Conference being held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the briefing, SmartCity Malta CEO Claudio Grech, explained that the building of the first rffice block is now under way, providing 12,000 sqm of office space. It is earmarked for completion in 2010.

This will be followed by further office buildings and other ancillary components which will collectively contribute towards the sustainable growth of SmartCity Malta and its evolution into a lifestyle destination, he said.

"The prominent emphasis of work-life balance will be evidently notably in view of the wide-ranging value added services and amenities that SmartCity Malta will be offering," SmartCity Malta said in a statement.

Mr Grech explained how as a unique business destination, serving both the European and North African regions, SmartCity Malta will have a mix of components to cater for the knowledge-based township community’s needs such as retail, amenities, entertainment and residential units.

He also highlighted the importance of SmartCity Malta in supporting the growth of the knowledge-based economy in Malta for the creation of high-valued added jobs in the country.

Mr Grech said SmartCity Malta’s committed vision is to develop a unique destination for all businesses, whether they were international, regional or local.
