Last weekend, Marsa were looking to beat Melita in a Winter League match to keep up with Krishna in the points table.
Melita batted first with Joy Ghoseroy and Andy Lenard the openers. Lenard was caught on the fourth ball of the first over but Ghoseroy went on to top the scoring for his team, hitting 47 runs.
Justin Brooke was going along nicely until he was bowled for 16 runs. Anthony Roberts scored 20 runs, including four 4s, as Melita totalled 127 from their allotted overs.
For Marsa, Ronnie Sacco took four wickets and Dimitri Zaf two.
Mike Caruana and Sacco opened the batting for Marsa. Together they produced a 67-run partnership before Sacco was caught. He had scored 40 runs, including four 4s.
Javed Shah scored 13 before being bowled and Zaf was also bowled for nine runs, both batsmen stopped by Will Nicholls.
Then, Sarfraz Ali went to the crease. Along with Caruana, he managed to take the score to an even 127 runs with one over to go, needing one run to win the match.
Ali was facing the last over and Nicholls the bowler. The fielders were in to save the single. Five balls were bowled and no single was taken. The last ball was bowled, and unfortunately for Ali, he was run out and the game was a tie. Nicholls managed to bowl a maiden.
Marsa had to settle for four points while Melita took five.
Next Saturday, Melita play Krishna in another Winter League match, starting at noon.
