Labour leader Joseph Muscat said today that the Maltese people were tolerant, but they could not accept illegality.
Speaking during a tour of the Islamic Centre in Corradino, Dr Muscat said the people could also not agree with the way the issue of illegal migration was being managed.
The Labour leader said the way how the Mariam Albatool Islamic School had developed - with a Catholic head of school and Catholic teachers, confirmed that the Maltese were tolerant and that it was not true that the Maltese were racist.
He said he hoped that the current situation would not reflect badly on the good work done by the school, which promoted integration in society.
Dr Muscat said the concerns of the Maltese people were rooted in what was illegal, and the PL would addressing this issue with a plan of action which it would present to Parliament when immigration was discussed next week.
The Labour leader was shown around the Islamic Centre and the school by Imam Mohammed El Sadi, the local secretary of the Islamic Call Society, Omar Ahmed Farhat and the Mariam Abatool school head, Maria Camilleri, a party candidate for the European Parliament.
