Some days ago the government announced a reduction in the price of fuel in Malta. Thanks to the euro and the single market one can now compare exactly between one country and another. Cyprus is also an island, much bigger in land area and with about twice the population of Malta, is a member of the European Union and is also in the eurozone, so one can compare like with like:
The prices are as table on the right. Can someone please explain why fuel in Malta is at best 14.25 per cent more expensive and at worst 89.75 per cent more expensive than it is in Cyprus?
