Sports news in brief from around the world on Monday:

Soccer - Captain Francesco Totti should be able play in AS Roma's Champions League last-16 second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday even though his knee still hurts after an injury, his personal fitness coach said.

"Francesco will try and train with (the rest of) the squad tomorrow, even though he'll feel pain," Vito Scala was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport's website (www.gazzetta.it). "It's normal to feel pain at this stage. I'm optimistic because I know Francesco and I'm sure he'll grit his teeth and take to the field on Wednesday."

Arsenal won the first leg in London 1-0.

Soccer - Juventus midfielder Mohamed Sissoko will miss the rest of the season after breaking a metatarsal bone in his left foot in Saturday's 1-0 win over Torino, the club said.

The Mali international will have surgery on Tuesday with an expected recovery time of 90 days, the Serie A club said on their website (www.juventus.com).

Soccer - Napoli midfielder Christian Maggio will have surgery on Tuesday after injuring ligaments in his right knee in Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Lazio, the Serie A club said on their website (www.sscnapoli.it).

Maggio will be out for the rest of the season, Italian media reported. Napoli's Uruguayan midfielder Walter Gargano also looks set for long spell on the sidelines because of a fractured foot.

Soccer - Argentina striker Fernando Cavenaghi will be out of action for up to eight weeks after injuring his right knee during Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Toulouse in Ligue 1, his club Girondins Bordeaux said.

Soccer - English League Two (fourth division) side Brentford have reported Rotherham United midfielder Pablo Mills to the FA for a challenge that left striker Nathan Elder with serious facial injuries and no vision in one eye, a club spokesman said.

Elder will not play again this season and is unlikely to regain the sight in his left eye for some time following Mills' aerial challenge in their 0-0 draw on Saturday. Elder suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket.

Soccer - Real Madrid will have to be very patient in their Champions League last-16 second leg at Liverpool on Tuesday and must try to stretch the English side by attacking them down the flanks, according to central defender Fabio Cannavaro. "The key will be for us not to play in the middle," he said in an interview with Monday's As newspaper. "We have to open up the pitch a lot, go for one-on-ones down the wings and pounce on any mistakes by their central players."
