Proposals to expand the southern hemisphere's two major competitions have moved a step closer to fruition with the major powerbrokers agreeing to form a working party to study the plans.
Representatives from SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) agreed at last week's executive committee meeting in Dubai to formulate a plan on the best way forward.
Among the key proposals are moves to include Argentina in the Tri-Nations as well as expanding the Super 14 provincial competition to 15 teams.
"SANZAR has appointed a dedicated project manager who will continue to work in refining the preferred competition structures for Super Rugby and Tri-Nations," a SANZAR statement said.
Argentina finished third at the 2007 World Cup, ahead of New Zealand and Australia, despite not being part of a regular competition.
