President Eddie Fenech Adami today concluded his official visits to towns and villages with a stop in his hometown, Birkirkara.
He said that his visits to localities helped him discover particular characteristics. This also counted for Birkirkara, which had a long time history.
His visit started with Mass at St Helena’s Basilica followed by a meeting with residents with coffee and the traditional Maltese pastizzi served on the church parvis.
Accompanied by his son Michael, Birkirkara’s mayor, the President met Frans Casha, a sculptor known for his proportional model of the basilica. He also met Margaret Farrugia, a painter who has been living in Birkirkara for more than 40 years and Victor Bugeja, who is known for his clay statuettes.
The President visited the three band clubs of the locality and the basilica’s museum. He later planted a commemorative tree at Ta’ Paris Garden.
Mrs Fenech Adami visited the elderly residents at Dar Pirotta, St Francis de Paule Home and Villa Chelsea, as well as the Augustinian and Franciscan nuns’ convents.
Throughout his Presidency, Dr Fenech Adami has visited 25 localities.
