Marlene Mizzi launches MEP campaign
Businesswoman Marlene Mizzi last night kicked off her campaign as candidate for the European Parliamentary elections, receiving the endorsement of several personalities.
Among them was Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat, television presenter and animal rights activist Moira Delia, lawyer Emmanuel Mallia, president of the Medicines Importers Association Reginald Fava and former Maltese Ambassador to France Salvino Busuttil.
Ms Mizzi said she was representing the Labour Party because she had witnessed a change in it as it was now being run by a "seasoned politician".
Ms Delia said Ms Mizzi should have a seat in the European Parliament to represent women but moreover to represent the Maltese people.
Described as a capable, competent and very professional and "natural candidate" by Dr Muscat, Ms Mizzi said she was obliged to do what she promised and that enough promises had been made that weren't kept.
She said the country had its problems, listing them as health, education, illegal immigration and the government because there was no transparency, accountability and integrity. She said the first thing an MEP should do was first and foremost to listen to the public.

Marlene, remember that you are living in Catholic islands. Update yourself with the social teaching of the Catholic Church because thus you can assure yourself better.

God has created us to love him the way he has told us. Christ founded his Catholic Church, i.e., universal, to teach us what is good to be done and evil to be avoided. We MUST practise this religion in our private and public lives. MPs are also bound by God's law as taught by the Catholic Church. We must support what is good and avoid evil. This applies also to our representatives in the European Parliament. MEPs are subject to God's law as well. And we insist that they behave according to the social teaching of the Catholic Church. The great majority of Maltese and Gozitans require this. We are Catholics.

This is OUR country, our religion is the Catholic religion, it is given preference over all other religions although they are tolerated, but don't expect that the minority should have it their way.
Those who don't like it are free to go back to their own countries.

Malta is a STATE with a population of circa 400,000. and each one of these individuals has a right to choose his/her religion !! A democratic country CANNOT represent only one religion, even when the majority of its population might belong to a particular religion !!
Only fundamentalist muslim countries do not seperate religion from politics, after all thats why the majority of the Maltese wanted to go to the EU and look up to European countries !!

Marriage between one man and one woman for ever: yes; divorce: never. Protecting life from conception to natural death: yes; abortion never. Positive steps according to God's law as taught to us by the Catholic Church: yes; negative steps against God's law: NEVER.

@ P Debono
In the 2004 EP election the Malta Labour Party made the mistake not to have women candidates, now they have 4. The PN in 2004 had 2 women, now (till today) one.
Although I am the founder of the Association for Men's Rights (1990) and now founder of the Alleanza Liberali (2006) I believe in true gender equality and I am sure that Marlene will agree with me and there is nothing offensive to her intelligence. I am proposing that it is more offensive if the Maltese vote like in 2004 European Parliament Election, that is all the seats were taken by the big political parties and so Malta had only support in two political groups whilst if Malta want to be stronger the Maltese MEPs should be distributed in at least four groups, that is the EPP, PES, ALDE/ELDR and the GREENS. So Mr. Debono it will be more offensive if at least we will not have two women MEPs and the Maltese MEPs must be in more different groups than in two, like the Maltese Parliament, red and blue. This does not show that we understood what being a member of the European Union means!

Being run by a "seasoned politician" ? Ho ho ho! J.Muscat is anything but seasoned. He is young and very new to local politics. What judgement skills did you use Ms. Mizzi to bake a statement like that ? Hopefully you will use better judgement skills if elected as MEP.

@P Debono. Illegal Migration is one of Mrs Mizzi's main points in here electoral programme. Did you even bother to visit her webiste?

@ John Zammit
I cannot understand this perception that just because she is a woman, then she must be elected. That is grossly discriminatory to all those men who are may be more qualified, or more popular with the electorate than Mizzi, not to mention it is offensive to Marlene Mizzi's intelligence.
A person should NEVER be appointed just because of his or her gender. And that applies both to men and women.
Personally, I wouldn't want to see Marlene Mizzi anywhere near an MEP seat because, like most of the ignorant politicians in Parliament, she has continually ignored the biggest problem facing Malta since its accession into the EU: illegal immigration.

We need at least 2 women MEPs to be elected this time from the five and hopefully six Malta will have in the European Parliament this time. One of them must be Marlene. Happy women's day for tomorrow!
