Over 6,000 on invalidity pension
There are 5,372 people in Malta and 974 in Gozo who receive an invalidity pension, Social Policy Minister John Dalli told Anthony Agius Decelis in reply to a parliamentary question.
Answering another question by Mr Agius Decelis, Mr Dalli said there were 760 people in Malta and 240 in Gozo who were awarded an invalidity pension in 2008. Of these, 400 in Malta and 208 in Gozo had their invalidity pension renewed.

Looks like Gozitans suffer from a very high level of invaliditis.
Research is required to find the necessary cure.

I just wonder what controls are in place to check if all these 'invalids' are actually so as of 2009. It is curious to see that, on a per capita basis, the number of invalids in Gozo is more than double the rate for Malta, which I suspect is already higher than it should be.
Surely it is time for the social security department to set up an investigative team, whose function would be to discreetly investigate just how 'invalid' some of these cases really are.
