GRTU makes case for small businesses with MRA chief
An analytical report on the electricity tariff structure and the GRTU’s recommendations for the review of the existing electricity tariffs was this morning presented to the chairman of the Malta Resources Authority by GRTU director general Vince Farrugia.
The report evaluates the tariffs from the point of view of small and medium enterprises and the impact caused on SMEs as a result of the discriminatory element they included.
GRTU has been arguing that the tariffs have an in-built bias against the smaller enterprises in favour of larger ones in certain sectors.
It contended that while it favoured the government’s intervention to support exporting firms to enable them to compete in very difficult international markets, it did not expect this support to be given at the expense of smaller enterprises.
The discriminatory element in the electricity tariffs published on the October 28 has been the cause of unacceptable difficulties faced by small businesses during the current difficult market conditions, Mr Farrugia said.
He emphasised the urgent need for the new tariff regime to be more favourable to SMEs and to include a compensatory element that would make up for the exceptional burdens suffered by smaller.

The Conference of Catholic Bishops had the following to say regarding public authorities:"If democracy is not to become a democratic tyranny in which the majority oppresses the minority, it is necessary for the public to have an understanding of the common good and the concepts that underlie it. Otherwise, they will be unlikely to support actions by public authority that are not to the immediate advantage of the majority. Futhermore, public confidence is undermined, and democracy subverted, when members of public authorities responsible for the common good are not appointed democratically or on objective merit but in order to ensure that the authority in question has a political complexion favourable to the government of the day" . Thus I think that now the MRA would undoubtedly look favourably on the document presented by Vince Farrugia.

It is incredible how Vince Farrugia can stoop low. First, we have the GRTU saying that he will not be representing it during the election period, then we have the obscene and impartial endorsement by the GRTU urgent members and their families to support the PN candidate, then we have this. It is incredible to what limts this Vince Farrugia (an anti-EU activist in the past turned pro-EU just days before the referendum) is stretching the boundries of political opportunism.

Since Mr Vince Farrugia is now a Nationalist Party candidate, will the MRA now look on his presentation on a more favourable light?
Will this case be used to enhance his image and, consequentially, that of the PN?
