The Malta International Karate Open is being held on Saturday at the Don Bosco Sports Complex in Dingli.
This year's competition will see the participation of top-class athletes from 13 countries including Spain, Germany, Holland, Italy, England, Ireland, Palestine, Austria, Luxemburg, Belgium, Turkey, France and Malta.
This is another opportunity for the local martial artists to gain more international experience.
The technical side of the event will be under Oliver Brunton (Ireland), a WKF chief international referee, and Lucienne Galea, an internationally -qualified kumite and kata referee.
The 2009 Malta Karate Open, sponsored by Jade Sofas of Mosta, will comprise a record number of categories with a total of 49 events.
Competition starts at 9 a.m. with the children and juniors Kata.
