GRTU backs director general's MEP candidacy
The national council of the Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU has endorsed the candidacy of its director general, Vince Farrugia for the European parliamentary elections. Mr Farrugia, who will contest on a Nationalist Party ticket, said earlier this week he would stay on as director general but would not speak on the GRTU's behalf until the elections on June 6.
The council said it backed Mr Farrugia in recognition of his hard work for small- and medium- sized enterprises. He would be a worthy, determined and experienced representative of the people in the European Parliament, the GRTU council added, urging its members and small- and medium-sized business owner to vote for Mr Farrugia.

@E.Vassallo
You might be forgiven by some for not reading anything against EU membership in what Mr Farrugia wrote then, but you can't possibly deny the broadsides against the NP then in power for the previous 5 years.

Vince Farrugia must have send shivers down the spineless PL Supporters.
Also, carrying like this, the brainless PL Supporters are making sure that Vince Farrugia is indeed elected comes this June.
Would they now better?

No? Then you should read at least the title of the text 'Joholmu'....., but then it continues 'dik li xi hadd qed jghid li l-Unjoni Ewropea ser tifthilna l-opportunitajiet ghal investiment u x-xoghol...."
Should I translate it for you?
How come this sudden change of heart?

There is nothing in the text that Vince Farrugia is saying against EU membership. The gist of the whole article was that irrespective of partnership or membership, Malta has to face its problems itself especially the problem of accumulating debt.

What is so funny about Mr Farrugia is that he is an PN MEP candidate. PN is the party that made Malta a member of the EU, while Mr Farrugia wrote this:
Joholmu
Ghax hi holma, holma kbira nobis, dik li xi hadd qed jghid li l-Unjoni Ewropea ser tifthilna l-opportunitajiet ghal investiment u x-xoghol. Meta? Ghada? Is-sena d-diehla? Lil min? Lit-tarzna? Lill-bdiewa? Lil manifattura? Lill-kummercjanti? Lil-lukandi? Lil min? Fejnhom il-fatti? Fejnhom il-figuri? Jekk il-gvern jibqa jimla ras in-nies bil-holm nibqghu nezlin. Ninzlu dejjem iktar l-isfel, fin-nizla tar-rovina. Ghax mhux vera li l-ekonomija qed tissahhah. Mhux vera li nvestituri u mprendituri Maltin ghandhom opportunitajiet ahjar li ser isibuhom ghada. Mhux vera li l-finanzi tal-gvern qed jitrangaw. Mhux vera li qed jinstabu opportunitajiet godda ta’ xoghol produttiv. Mhux vera qed jizdiedu l-proffitti, li huma l-akbar garanzija ghal aktar investiment fil-futur.

And PN keeps harping that the LP, especially Dr Joseph Muscat and Sharon Ellul Bonici were both against Malta's full membership of the EU!

Its unbelievable how the LP has organised itself in the blogs to fight Vince Farrugia's candidature. For the record, his approval enjoys cross party support. Retailers and small businesses know that Vince Farrugia has been their very effective shield . I go on record that as a council member of GRTU, we are not a "workers" union as most of you bloggers ( Sorry...I menat pixies and Elves) but a Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, with the well being of our businesses at heart. Vince Farrugia was, is and always will be our greatest asset, fighting for us irrespective of colour or creed, Pn or MLP. And he continues to do so, and this is something that every GRTU member knows. His approval by the council was only right, as its the least we could do. Vince has been director general for 15 long years, and he has always done a sterling job. Anyone wishing to dissent has all the space to do so in GRTU, but its the majority who decided, and if we have come to a point that because of some very frustrated LP bloggers majority rule is questioned, then we can kiss demorcracy goodbye.

Retailers’ position could be understood that whenever you enter a shop is like entering a P.N. den
GRTU is like saying that it is a P.N. branch. Now it's up to the clients to judge and act accordingly.
If they want Labourites to be their clients’ retailers ought to think it over.
The Retailers endorsing officially Mr.V. Farrugia as a PN MEP candidate and calling to retailers to back him is a message to those who are not P.N. supporters to keep off from their respective traders. Every body now knows what their money is being used for.
The GWU has distanced itself from the L.P. following massive criticism and the GRTU is seen as affiliated to the P.N. in the person of its secretary and its executive. This does not mean that Mr.V. Farrugia is frightening the L.P. it only uncovers what was kept hidden.
The worst thing that the members of the GRTU did is to officially endorse a political affiliation.
If a retailer does not dissociate himself openly from its leaders than it is presumed that he is backing the P.N.
Why should business associate itself with a political trend?
What a difference from a workers’ union.

What a farse GRTU is!!!!!
Apparently, Mr Farrugia was present during the said meeting and no secret vote was taken to approve his candidature!! Wow, what democracy!!!
And this privileged union now backs a PN MEP candidate and to add insult to the injury, is obliging its members to vote for Mr Farrugia under the PN ticket!!
Mind you, Mr Paul Vella, who is the GRTU President is a former PN Mayor of Swieqi, so what is in a name?!?!
GRTU members stand up for action!!! Such union is now officially politicised!!

Some months ago when most of the Unions united and organised a national manifestation against the new utility tariffs Vince Farrugia claimed “that the GRTU was not going to take part as it did not want to politicise this issue”.
The above should be included in Farrugia’s slogan to exemplify his credibility and integrity throughout the years.
No wonder the country is in such abysmal state.

Everyone seems shocked that VF is showing up in blue after being a supposedly neutral Union man.
I'm more shocked byt he fact that he intends keeping his union post if elected - i.e. he plans to be an MEP for his members, rather for all Maltese. Consumers beware.

Anyone ready to forecast the effect on the GRTU in the short term, the medium term and the long term? On the GRTU, not on Vince Farrugia. That is another matter.

Unbelievable ! Shameful ! Disgusting!
This is totally unacceptable! How dare the GRTU support a biased candidate. Endorse him even more.... I urge small and medium-sized business to stop paying their membership fee s to GRTU because in turn they are endorsing a candidate on a particular ticket and not seeking the interest of every business.
If these things keep on happening in Malta we will live to see democracy deteriorate!

GRTU's hidden agenda has now been disclosed. Shameful!!!! What a disgrace!! I urge the faithful GRTU members to resign from such an irresponsible union.
As a matter of fact Mr Farrugia is not credible neither - may I remind readers that he was one of the officials that has campaigned against the EU by addressing a CNI meeting!!!

Shame on GRTU this is total nonsense!!!! This is the way a union deals with such situation!!! yes and all GRTU member are paying Mr Farruigia so that he woudl spend a couple of months campaigning on behalf of Nationalist Party. The same party who has put endless burduns on small and medium sized buisnesses!! GRTU members be courageous and leave this 'union' which definately is not there to defend your rights but is more interested to campaign in favor of the same party which is putting great burduns on your shoulders!!

...and i urge, GRTU members, and small and medium-sized businesses to stop paying their membership to the GRTU which serves for Mr. Vince to get his pay whilst campaigning for June's elections. what an utter lack of respect towards peoples intelligence.
