UHM to order health sector industrial action
The UHM said today it would order nursing aides, care workers, assistant care workers and health assistants at Mater Dei Hospital to take industrial action on Friday over the government's failure to meet its commitments made in a collective agreement reached last year.
UHM section secretary Joe Bonello did not specify what sort of industrial action would be taken, but said every effort would be made not to affect patients.
UHM president Gejtu Tanti told a press conference that applications for promotions in the respective grades had been issued late and did not observe the collective agreement. The workers had therefore lost out in allowances.
The matter had been taken to conciliation which found in favour of the union in November. But the collective agreement was still not being observed, Mr Bonello said.

'Id-direttivi li tat il-General Workers’ Union lin-Nursing Aides, Health Assistants, Care Workers’ u Assistant Care Workers’ joħorġu l-insensittivita’ tal-General Workers’ Union.
Bl-azzjonijiet tal-General Workers’ Union qed ibatu l-aktar nies fraġli u vulnerabbli. Fil-mira tal-General Workers’ Union, biex tasal fejn trid hi qed tuża lill-morda u lill-anzjani. L-azzjonijiet tal-General Workers’ Union għandhom implikazzjonijiet serji fuq saħħet l-anzjani u l-morda.'
I wonder what the Pn as a party, and PN apologists who were quick to criticise when the GWU resorted to action in this sector are saying now......

@j Borg: The proof of the pudding is in the eating. The UHM is a real FREE TRADE UNION and takes action irrespective whose party is in Govt. St Thomas 2000 years ago said that he has to see to believe, modern man SEE and does not believe. What a shame.

Here I am. Today unions can order any strike, partial or not. BUT I STILL HAVE IN MY POSSESSION A NOTE GIVEN TO ME, AND OTHER TEACHERS, ASKING ME TO DECLARE IN WRITING THAT I WOULD NOPT OBEY MY UNION,S DIRECTIVES. Where are the labour bloggers. Today doctors would not be locked out, teachers would not be transferred en bloc, assaulted, humiliated...Xi hadd se jmerini kelma wahda biss? Wait and see.
